Yes, when you use them actively. Building a mind map makes you decide what matters and how the ideas connect, which helps you understand a topic. The bigger gain comes afterwards: covering the branches and recalling what belongs on each one, then repeating that over several days. A map you make once and never look at again does far less.

Can ChatGPT or AI make a mind map?angle down

What can I make a mind map from?angle down

Typed notes, PDF, Word and plain text files up to 5MB each, MP3 recordings up to 25MB, and YouTube links. You can combine several sources in one map, so a lecture recording and the reading that went with it end up on the same page. Audio and YouTube sources are part of Pro.

How do I revise with a mind map?angle down

Cover the branches and say out loud what belongs on each one, then check. Redraw the main branches from memory on a blank page. Come back after a day, then a few days, then a week: recalling something just as you start to forget it is what makes it stick. For any branch you are unsure of, use Ask AI, and the explanation is saved into that branch's notes for next time.

What should a good mind map include?angle down

A clear central topic, around four to seven main branches, and smaller branches for the detail. Use short keywords on the branches rather than full sentences, and keep longer explanations in the notes. Giving each main branch its own colour helps you remember where things are. What is the difference between a mind map, a concept map and a spider diagram?angle down

A mind map has one central topic, with branches spreading out from it in a hierarchy. A concept map is a network: any idea can link to any other, and each link is labelled to say how they relate, such as "causes" or "is part of". A spider diagram is a simpler mind map, usually only one or two levels deep, often used for quick brainstorming.

Can I work on a mind map with classmates?angle down

Yes. Start a live session and share the link, and everyone in the session can edit the same map in real time, with a label showing who is editing what.

It depends on how much you give it. A short set of notes comes back quickly, while a long PDF or a full lecture recording can take up to five minutes, because the AI reads the whole source before it starts building the map. You only wait once. After that, the map is yours to edit instantly.

Is my data private, and can I delete my maps?angle down

Your maps and notes are stored in your account, and you can permanently delete them at any time. Files you upload, such as documents and recordings, are deleted as soon as they have been read. Mindmapi uses OpenAI's API to generate maps, and under OpenAI's API policy the content we send is not used to train its models and is kept for no more than 30 days. Mindmapi doesn't use your content to train AI either.
